About
Hello!! :) I'm Elsie Swanborough
I'm a multimedia artist based in the UK
My practice investigates the efforts to preserve and understand the human experience of life and the mystery surrounding death.
I look into the differences between various historical and cultural beliefs of the afterlife. I am interested in merging mythological stories, creatures and ideals to create a familiar yet otherworldly embodiemnt of the afterlife- be it psycopompic spirits that transcend life and death, a representation of a physical otherworld such as hell, or ideas of the soul’s transformation or journey. I am inspired by my own relationship to memory and documentation through sentimental collecting of objects and photographs, my hobby of keeping a diary to understand and navigate my life. My practice mostly uses clay and ceramics, ink drawing, diary collage and sketching and digital medias.

I love adventure and nature and I'd like to shapeshift into a crow and fly about. Did you know crows can talk? Maybe my singing voice would be better if I was a crow. The stage presence would be unbeatable. Karaoke crow. I'd also like to be a wisened old wizard in medieval times, but then again, who wouldn't.

Artsy Things from Me :)
